The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has warned universities and other tertiary institutions against issuing admission letters to candidates, insisting that the responsibility rests solely with the Board.
JAMB Registrar, Professor Segun Aina, gave the warning during a courtesy visit by a delegation from Veritas University, Bwari, Abuja, to his office.
According to a statement issued by the Board on Monday, October 19, 2026, Aina said JAMB remains the only legally authorised body to issue official admission letters to candidates seeking admission into universities, polytechnics and colleges of education across Nigeria.
He expressed concern that some candidates might mistakenly consider admission offers genuine simply because the documents appeared to have been issued by their respective institutions.
The registrar urged institutions engaging in the practice to desist, describing it as an improper act. He also stressed that institutions had a responsibility to ensure candidates obtained their official admission documents from JAMB.
Aina recalled that the Federal Ministry of Education had directed that all admissions into tertiary institutions be processed through the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS).
He warned that admissions conducted outside the approved platform were illegal and invalid, adding that institutions could not substitute their own admission letters for the official documents issued by JAMB after candidates had accepted their offers through CAPS.
He further explained that only admissions processed and recognised through CAPS would be accepted for purposes such as mobilisation for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
The registrar called on tertiary institutions to comply with established admission procedures to prevent candidates from being misled and to safeguard the integrity of Nigeria's admission process.
